Eliminating Negativity Starts With You

· Mindset,Perspective,Stress

If it is to be, it is up to you (me). We can possibly be over stimulated each day with an overwhelming amount of information, and so much of it is likely to be negative. So, what can we do about it? In his book, “The Negativity Fast: Proven Techniques to Increase Positivity, Reduce Fear, and Boost Success”, he outlines five things we could do, should we choose to:

  1. Minimize the amount of negative media (and there is a lot of it) that you expose yourself to every day, it will reduce the impact it has not only on your mind but your body.
  2. Pay attention to your own negativity bias. If you find yourself becoming negative, stop. Take a breath and remind yourself that you are at a crossroads with two paths and perhaps go the other way.
  3. Take care of your body. Consider what you eat and drink, exercise (we all know that one) and be sure to get enough sleep. Each contributes to your physical wellness.
  4. Take care of your mind. Whether you practice mindfulness, meditation, yoga or just slow breathing which removes pressure from your diaphragm. This in turn will help you feel more positive.
  5. And lastly, one that I have been doing for quite some time; increase how much positivity you take in. This could be doing more things that bring you pleasure. It could be time spent with family (unless that stresses you) and good friends. Or if you enjoy reading for escape or personal interest, watching programs that make you happy or stimulate your mind. Anything you can do to go somewhere more peaceful, especially through laughter, would be beneficial.

“Be cautious with what you feed your mind and soul. Fuel yourself with positivity and let that fuel propel you into positive action.” - Steve Maraboli
