For several years, I supported my local HR professional colleagues by facilitating study group sessions in preparation for a credentialing exam. Then, our national organization shifted gears and created a new certification. There were other areas but some of the covered material was organized in a different way.
When I switched to the new material, some of it was outside of my comfort zone. In order to facilitate discussion in some sections, I challenged myself to become more familiar with this new material. My expectation was that I would improve my understanding of the subject matter by encouraging myself to grow. This, in turn would keep me fresh with my expertise.
Today, I ask, what are you doing to challenge yourself?
