New Year’s Resolutions – OUT!

Focus – IN!

Last week, a cashier, a young adult, at the grocery store where we shop, asked me while checking out if I had made any resolutions for 2020! My answer to her was “no” and that I didn’t make them. While I didn’t share more with her, a stranger, I knew that I did have a focus for the new year.

To me, this area of focus, while personal, is very important to me. It’s something that I have been thinking about for some time but now it truly has to be more than that. As a coach, I am regularly helping others with their goals and supporting their efforts and guiding them on removing obstacles so that they can achieve those goals. This will happen at any time that I am engaged in their development.

Without hesitation, my goal has to have clear definition, measurable results, be realistic to the environment and be timely but most importantly support factors to ensure success. Being timely is crucial and this is a positive for me, not because the ball dropped in Times Square but because other factors of my life allow it to be.

To be successful, any goal needs action steps that will bring us closer to achieving what we want. Without all of these ingredients, the chances for success are minimized. To me, all of these variables add up to the focus and could be the very reason that may cause many to fail.

Happy New Year!

It's 2020, shouldn't we all be able to see things more clearly this year?

“Whenever you want to achieve something,

keep your eyes open, concentrate,

and make sure you know exactly what it is you want.

No one can hit their target with their eyes closed.” - Paulo Coelho
