Preparation + Opportunity = ???????

· Goal Setting,Work Styles,Self-Improvement

Several years ago, I attended the Spring graduation ceremony at Florida Gulf Coast University, here in Southwest Florida. As one of my clients was receiving his MBA degree, it was an honor to share this achievement with him and his wife. Our coaching relationship included working through challenges he faced in this aggressive graduate program while he was also balancing a responsible job with huge demands, personal relationships, and the early stages of his exploration of new career opportunities. One of the speakers at the graduation ceremony shared some personal experiences with these graduates that have brought her to where she is today.

Over and over in her life, the speaker related that it wasn’t luck that she needed to move forward with her dreams but, actually, simple formula. By preparing herself for each new opportunity to her best ability, and creating situations where opportunities would present themselves to her, she would accomplish her goals.

It’s seems simplistic and it’s something each and every one of us can relate to but it doesn’t hurt to contemplate again from time to time. Without preparation, you won’t achieve it and if you are fully prepared but don’t seek out every opportunity that is available, you miss out as well. The formula is really simple – it’s the formula for SUCCESS!

You see things and say, ‘Why?’.

But I dream things that never were and say,

‘Why not?’".

– George Bernard Shaw
